The Emily Davison School opened in September 2022 in a refurbished site in Ponteland. We are a designated co-educational secondary school provision for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
Students travel from all areas of Northumberland to attend the Emily Davison School and we have a capacity of 100 students.

Our Vision is to have ‘An Ethos of Excellence’ in everything that we do; in a safe, stimulating and supportive environment, based on care, responsibility and proactive relationship management, where mutual respect is of prime importance.

Within our ‘Ethos of Excellence’ we have six key areas:
→ Excellence in Communication
→ Excellence in Teaching
→ Excellence in Learner Experiences
→ Excellence in Wellbeing
→ Excellence in Leadership
→ Excellence in Progress & Outcomes: Academic and Social Progress

The singularity of our vision shared by staff enables us to provide the highest quality education and support for all our pupils. Indeed, staff will always go ‘the extra mile’ to create a caring environment in which our students are encouraged to manage and overcome their additional needs, within a climate that promotes curiosity and learning; enabling them to be the best they can be.
Our high expectations empower students to make outstanding progress academically, morally and socially. In addition, we focus on their place in the community, encouraging their development into active and responsible members of society; Preparation for Adulthood.

The Emily Davison School is very much about attainment, not containment. We promote positive relationships and have a very broad and balanced curriculum that focuses on a blend of Core and Creative subjects. We assess the academic ability of every student and strive for the best possible outcomes in English, mathematics and Science. These range from students achieving Early Entry certificates, Functional Skills Level 1 and 2, up to GCSE, where students this year achieved up to level 7.

In partnership with students, parents, carers and external agencies we use the Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) to develop a clear Therapeutic Profile of each student and ensure there are clear interventions to ensure progress is made within the Preparation for Adulthood. We have a blend of THRIVE practice and using Prisum to baseline, map and monitor social development and addressing additional needs highlighted within the students’ EHCP and their annual reviews.
The website will give you some information about what we offer but the best way to get a ‘feel’ for the Emily Davison School is to come and see for yourselves. Please do get in touch to arrange a tour.

Should you decide that the Emily Davison School is the right school for your son or daughter to flourish, we look forward to the next few years of our partnership.
